The GLAAD Wrap: Trailers for 'Eternals,' 'Jungle Cruise,' 'The Lesbian Bar Project,' new music from Lady Gaga, Big Freedia, Melissa Etheridge, and more!

Every week, The GLAAD Wrap brings you LGBTQ-related entertainment news highlights, fresh stuff to watch out for, and fun diversions to help you kick off the weekend.

1) A new trailer has been released for Marvel’s Eternals, which follows a group of immortals, one of whom, Phastos (Brian Tyree Henry) has a husband and child. The film will hit theaters on November 5 of this year; watch the trailer below. Disney also released a trailer for The Jungle Cruise, which follows Dr. Lily Houghton and Frank Wolff as they quest down a dangerous river for a healing tree. The film also includes Lily’s brother on the adventure, who has been reported to be gay. Watch the trailer here and catch the film July 24 in theaters and on Disney+ Premiere Access.

2) A trailer has been released for The Lesbian Bar Project documentary, a film that comes from the crowdfunding campaign to save lesbian bars during COVID-19, and focuses on how these spaces for queer women are dying and need to be saved. Watch the trailer below and catch the doc on YouTube on June 3, when donations will also re-open for the project. Out actors Jonny Beauchamp and Mike Manning have been cast in upcoming film The Way Out. The movie follows an addict (Beauchamp) who gets taken under the wing of a boxer (Manning), who leads him down a dark path. In more casting news, out actor Anna Akana has been cast in About Fate, an Emma Roberts-lead romantic comedy following a chance encounter on New Years’ Eve.

3) The queens have been announced for season six of RuPaul’s Drag Race All Stars. Among the line-up of queens are trans performers Jiggly Caliente and Kyle Sonique Love. Click here for the full list. The new season will premiere on Paramount Plus on June 24. In more Drag Race news, the queens have been announced for Drag Race España, the newest international offshoot of RuPaul’s Drag Race. The show, hosted by Supremme de Luxe, will premiere on June 30 on World of Wonder presents. Watch the “Meet the Queens” video here.

4) Out actor Natalie Morales has said that her character of Betty in the new Rugrats series will be queer. This version of the character for the Paramount+ series will be a single mom to Phil and Lil who is out and proud. Rugrats premiered Thursday on the streamer. Out non-binary actor Ezra Menas will be playing the non-binary character of Odee in Madagascar: A Little Wild, whose third season premiered on Hulu and Peacock Thursday. This character is a huge step forward for a non-binary character to be celebrated in an animated show aimed at young people.

5) New actors have been added to the cast of Motherland: Fort Salem for season two. This includes out actor Ess Hödlmoser, who will be playing M, a non-binary soldier the main trio encounters in war college. In more casting news, non-binary actor Mason Alexander Park has been cast in Netflix’s upcoming The Sandman adaptation. They will play Desire, the sibling of Dream who personifies the concept of desire.

6) TL Thompson has been cast in The CW reboot 4400. Thompson, who is trans, will play the role of Dr. Andre, a doctor from 1920s Harlem who is transgender, and is part of the group of 4400 people who are taken out of time and deposited in 2021. Out singer Rina Sawayama has been cast in upcoming film John Wick: Chapter 4 in her feature acting debut. Details for the role are still unknown. Out actor and playwright Jeremy O. Harris has been cast as a guest role in the upcoming second season of Emily in Paris as Gregory, a fashion designer who is always surrounded by “gorgeous clothes and gorgeous men.”

7) Amazon and executive producer Gloria Calderón Kellett have set several series for development, including Glowing Up. Based on Jane Austen’s Emma, and graphic novel Mismatched, the adult animated musical comedy will follow Evan Horowitz, a queer Latino Jewish match matchmaker determined to make true love happen at his high school. HBO has renewed A Black Lady Sketch Show, from out showrunner Lauren Ashley Smith, for a third season. The second season in currently airing. Drag queens Bianca Del Rio, Nina West, Lady Bunny, Lyle, and Delta Work will be newscasters in NewsBeat, a new show from out producer Clay Aiken, where drag queens will deliver the day’s new stories.

8) To celebrate ten years since her album Born This Way, out singer Lady Gaga is releasing Born This Way The Tenth Anniversary album, which features the 14 original songs from the album as well as six re-imagined songs covered by artists from LGBTQIA+ community. The first one of these, Big Freedia’s version of “Judas,” was released today. Pre-order the album here and listen to “Judas” here. 9) Out singer Melissa Etheridge has released a new single and video, “One Way Out” from her upcoming album of the same name, which will be made up of unrecorded or unreleased songs from decades past. 10) Out singer Matt Palmer released his new EP The Good Parts today. Listen to the album here. Out singer Ladyhawke has announced a new album Time Flies, which will be released on October 8. 11) Queer duo Boyish releaed their new EP We're all gonna die, but here's my contribution today. Listen to the EP here, and watch their new video for single "Howls" here. Out singer Rebecca Black released a new single and music video for “Worth It For the Feeling.” The song will be on her upcoming album Rebecca Black Was Here, which will be out on June 18. 12) Out actor Dyllón Burnside will be among the ensemble of new play Thoughts of Colored Man, opening on Broadway on October 1. The show follows seven Black men in Brooklyn over the course of one single day. Out writer Roxane gay has announced that she will be launching her own publishing imprint, which focuses on telling stories from underrepresented voices, include those from the perspectives of those who are queer, feminist, and/or people of color.
