The Trump Administration’s attacks against the LGBTQ community range from truly harmful to utterly absurd to downright petty. The latest among these attacks, arguably a combination of all three, is a proposal to change the name of USNS Harvey Milk (T-AO-206) – a gesture introduced, of course, during Pride Month.
The slight to Harvey Milk – a revered gay rights activist, the first openly gay man to be elected to public office in California, and actual Veteran of the United States Navy – has not gone unnoticed by the community. Stuart Milk, Harvey Milk’s nephew said the “recommendation” to change the name “will be a rallying cry not just for our community but for all minority communities.” Stuart is currently executive chair of the Harvey Milk foundation.
Joining the charge of folks speaking out against the proposal is none other than superstar Matt Bomer.
In the latest crop of red carpet pics snapped of the Mid-Century Modern star, Bomer can be seen donning a Black tee with the words “United States Navy | USNS Harvey Milk | T-AO-206″ printed on it.
Bomer sported his wardrobe motivated act of resistance at a party for Los Angeles Magazine’s Profiles in Pride edition, in which Bomer and his costars were profiled.
By publicly referencing the naval vessels “former” name, including the ship’s official Hull number, Bomer sends a simple but straightforward message to Trump that no matter how hard he tries, history cannot be erased by an internal memo.
