Every week, The GLAAD Wrap brings you LGBTQ-related entertainment news highlights, fresh stuff to watch out for, and fun diversions to help you kick off the weekend.
1.) The trailer for Enigma, an upcoming documentary from HBO, was released this week! The documentary, directed by Zackary Drucker, follows Amanda Lear, April Ashley, and more women in the 60s and 70s who “contested their identities as women in the court of public opinion.” The film explores the relationship between these women and the intense public and media speculation surrounding them. A number of trans performers appear in the documentary as well, including Bambi, Dolly Van Doll, and Allanah Starr. Don’t miss Enigma when it premieres on HBO on June 24 at 9pm EST.
2.) Echo Valley, a new film Apple TV+ starring Julianne Moore and Sydney Sweeney, is out this week! The film follows Kate (Moore), a lesbian widow struggling to keep her ranch afloat, and her drug-addicted daughter Claire (Sweeney), who takes advantage of her mother’s love. One night, Claire comes home covered in someone else’s blood, and Kate decides to handle it. Don’t miss Echo Valley, out now on Apple TV+!
3.) Out actress Sherry Cola and rapper Ice Spice have both joined the cast of The Spongebob Movie: Search for SquarePants! The film will follow SpongeBob as he finally is tall enough to make it into the big people’s fairground park, but when he accidentally summons the Flying Dutchman, SpongeBob and Patrick are abducted by the villain who hopes to use them to break his curse. The film will be released on Paramount+ on December 19, and there’s no age limit on joy, so don’t miss it!

4.) The trailer for the third and final season of Prime Video’s The Summer I Turned Pretty was released this week, and it is filled to the brim with drama. The show follows Belly, a girl caught in a love triangle between Conrad and Jeremiah, two brothers she has known since she was a child. This season sets her up in a relationship and even engaged to Jeremiah, who is bisexual, but teases that her past with Conrad may not be in the past after all. Catch the final season of The Summer I Turned Pretty on July 16 on Prime Video.
5.) The trailer for Too Much, the upcoming comedy series on Netflix, was released this week! The show centers on Jessica, played by bisexual actress Megan Stalter, as she moves to London after a break-up and starts a new life. When she moves to London, she meets Felix, a walking red flag, but can’t ignore their connection, no matter how many problems it causes. The show will also feature queer actors Andrew Rannells, Andrew Scott, and Emily Ratajkowski, and queer singer Rita Ora. Don’t Miss Too Much on Netflix on July 10!
6.) A sequel of the hit Cartoon Network show Steven Universe is in the works at Prime Video, titled Steven Universe: Lars of the Stars. The show, from queer and nonbinary creator and executive producer of Steven Universe, Rebecca Sugar, follows Lars Barriga, an eternal teenager, as he and his crew of pirates smuggle contraband, avoid the authorities, and discover the darkest secrets of the fallen Gem Empire. 7.) The Carrie television adaptation in the works at Amazon MGM Studios has added a number of new faces to the cast, including bisexual actor Kate Siegel and gay actor Tim Bagley. They join already announced queer cast members, including nonbinary actor Thalia Dudek and trans actress Josie Totah. The TV adaptation of Stephen King’s novel of the same name is a reimagining of the story of misfit high schooler Carrie White, who has spent her life in seclusion with her domineering mother. Following her father’s sudden death, Carrie finds herself contending with the challenges of high school, a bullying scandal and the emergence of mysterious telekinetic powers. 8.) In music news this week, queer and nonbinary musician G Flip released their new single “Big Ol’ Hammer,” as well as the accompanying music video, which was described by G Flip as “probably the queerest song [they’ve] ever written.” In other music news, Rita Ora released a new single titled “Heat,” and Glitterfox released “Wildfires,” the lead single and a celebration of queer romance from their new album decoder, out August 22.
9.) The Tony Awards were this last Sunday, and a number of queer performers and professionals took home awards, including some who made history! The night was hosted by queer actress and singer Cynthia Erivo, and Broadway legend and queer icon Harvey Fierstein was given a Lifetime Achievement Award, making this his fifth Tony. Gay costume designer Paul Tazewell took home the award for “Costume Design for a Musical” for Death Becomes Her, and became the second person ever to win a Tony and an Oscar in the same year! Cole Escola also made history as the first nonbinary performer to win “Actor in a Leading Role – Play” for their performance in Oh, Mary. Gay director Michael Arden took home the award for “Direction – Musical” for Maybe Happy Ending, which also won “Best Musical,” and gay director Sam Pinkleton took home “Direction – Play” for Oh, Mary! Drag legend Jinkx Monsoon and the cast of Pirates! The Penzance Musical performed at the awards alongside gay actor David Hyde Pierce. Check out the full list of winners here!
10.) The New York City Center announced its musical theater lineup for the 2025-26 season, including an all-Black Encores! production of La Cage Aux Folles, which will star gay icon and Tony and Emmy-award winning actor Billy Porter. The production is scheduled for June 17 through June 28, 2026, already something to look forward to for next pride! Stay tuned for more updates!
