More than a Name: A Shifting Recognition of Transgender People Across the Globe

In 2021, Sam Arndt (he/him) and Sophia Emmerich (she/her) produced the award-winning documentary AB HEUTE (Eng.: From today on). The queer and trans production team not only captured a wonderfully honest and moving portrait of what it means to be a trans person in Germany. They also prove the essentiality of trans people having the rights over their own identity and official papers.

Each year on March 31, the world observes Transgender Day of Visibility (TDOV) to raise awareness about transgender people.

  • The 2015 U.S. Trans Survey is the largest survery of transgender people ever conducted. The data has also been broken down by race, ethnicity, and geography. The survey's results detail the extent of the poverty, discrimination, and violence faced by transgender people. The results are also available in Spanish.
