EEOC Inclusion of Transgender Employees Under Civil Rights Act Takes Effect Today
“This is a historic day for human rights in the United States…starting today transgender and gender non-conforming people now have legal recourse if they face discrimination on the job," said Masen Davis, executive director of the Transgender Law Center (TLC). "We no longer have to be silent when we are fired or not hired simply for being who we are.”

EEOC Says Transgender Federal Employees Covered by Civil Rights Act
On April 20, the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC), an agency of the United States Government that oversees federal employment discrimination, issued an official opinion stating that employment discrimination against transgender Americans violates Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964.

GLAAD Mourns Transgender Advocate and HIV/AIDS Activist Alexis Rivera
Last week, transgender advocate Alexis Rivera passed away from complications related to HIV. Rivera was 34 years old and worked as Policy Advocate at the Transgender Law Center in San Francisco since 2007. GLAAD offers deepest condolences to her friends, family, and all who loved her.

Why ABC's New Sitcom Work It Hurts the Transgender Community
ABC's new show about straight men dressing as women to get jobs comes during a period in which the transgender community now routinely finds itself in the cultural crosshairs, the timing couldn’t be worse for a show based on the notion that men dressed as women is inherently funny. In fact, shows like this have the power to put the transgender community in an even more dangerous position.
