Hot summer in the city: A few Latinx happenings

Wildly creative and queer musician Flor Amargo will be at the Levitt Pavilion in MacArthur Park on July 30, presented by La Banda Elástica, a Latin youth culture web destinaton. Known for her high-energy and playful public performances and featured on the soundtrack of "La Casa de las Flores," she is one of several musicians giving concerts at Levitt LA, which are free to the public, but you do have to sign up. And, of course, mask up!

Libera Tu Orgullo

Latinx Activists & Celebs Come Together for IDAHOTB This Sunday

 This Sunday, May 17 is International Day Against Homophobia, Transphobia and Biphobia. In Mexico, Libera Tu Orgullo (Release Your Pride) will bring together activists and celebrities for an hour-long program of performances and messages of support en español. Also on Sunday, in Puerto Rico LGBTQ activists will be joined by singers Ricky Martin and Olga Tañón to remember those lost to anti-LGBTQ violence and to call for safety for all Puerto Ricans.

The 20th Latin Grammy Awards will take place November 14 and this year Ricky Martin will host along with actresses Paz Vega and Roselyn Sánchez. The event airs in Univision that same evening. Kany García and other LGBTQ+ artists and allies will also be participating. LGBTQ ally Juanes will be honored as Person of the Year.

Ricky Martin is among a number of artists and thousands of citizens calling for the resignation of Puerto Rico governor Ricardo Rosselló Rosselló finds himself in a massive political crisis in part because a trove of homophobic and misogynistic communications that were recently made public. Impassioned messages for political change resounded from the Premios Juventud stage Thursday night.
