In light of the recent US election, it is imperative that we come together in order to rally for LGBTQ rights now, with a rally against HB1523 taking place on December 11th.
While Louisiana Governor John Bel Edwards issued an executive order banning discrimination against LGBT people who work for state government, two bills, SB 288 and HB 597, continue to progress in legislation.
"America will not tolerate discrimination against the LGBT community nor will it put transgender people in danger without making the states that passed these laws pay economically."
Tomorrow, South Carolina SB 1203 will head to hearing within the state senate. This bill comes following similar discriminatory bills being passed in North Carolina and Mississippi, among others.
So, in short, religious freedom only applies to Tony Perkins. That doesn't really sound like freedom to me. To be perfectly in honest, it seems that Tony Perkins is asking for special rights.
When the issue of marriage equality is raised, one of the most common objections raised by the anti-LGBT crowd – and one of the most ironic - is that it will violate religious liberty. What is not being shared in these fear mongering speeches is that much of the public's support for LGBT people actually comes from within the religious communities.
