The 84th Academy Award nominations were announced today, and Christopher Plummer, Glenn Close, Rooney Mara, and Janet McTeer all received nominations for their roles as LGBT characters.

Nominations for the 2012 Golden Globes were announced in Hollywood today and, along with yesterday’s Screen Actors Guild Award nominations, show a number of actors being recognized for playing LGBT characters, even though the films they are featured in haven't received quite as much attention.
