In 2012 we bid a sad goodbye to some beloved LGBT Latinos and allies, and welcomed many positive moments, including the coming out of Puerto Rican boxer Orlando Cruz.

Mexican American superstar Jenni Rivera, who was an ally for LGBT equality, died in a plane accident December 9.

Legendary openly lesbian singer Chavela Vargas passed away today at the age of 93. The singer, who came out at the age of 81, was known for challenging gender norms throughout her career.
