Pop sensation Kim Petras to perform at the 2018 GLAAD Gala San Francisco
San Francisco – GLAAD, the world’s largest LGBTQ media advocacy organization, today announced that pop artist Kim Petras will be performing at the 2018 GLAAD Gala San Francisco at the Hyatt Regency San Francisco on Saturday, September 15, 2018. The GLAAD Gala San Francisco celebrates and features storytellers who accelerate acceptance for the LGBTQ community.
For more information on the GLAAD Gala San Francisco, visit: www.glaad.org/events/2018/sfgala.
Petras, one of the biggest breakout artists in pop music this past year, first garnered media attention at the age of 13 when she shared her story as a transgender teen. Now, with her shimmering pop confessional “Heart to Break” seeing her surpass 34 million total Spotify streams, Kim Petras will be taking the stage to help GLAAD honor innovators in the tech and new media industries who help accelerate LGBTQ acceptance on local, national, and global levels.
Somewhere between 90s American pop and 80s European disco resides the undeniable voice of Kim Petras. The side-bun-sporting songstress has been named a Spotify RISE artist and one to watch for 2018 by the likes of NY Times, Billboard, Paper, V Magazine, Noisey, Out, I-D, Refinery29, Popcrush and many more. Recently featured in H&M’s “Pride Out Loud” campaign (in partnership with OUT) for the brand’s LGBTQ-themed capsule line, and currently a part of Opening Ceremony’s Discover series, Kim Petras powers up a new pop paradigm. On tour with Troye Sivan this Fall, Petras shares lovelorn storylines over explosive production across several irresistible singles including the viral global hit “I Don’t Want It At All.”
“Kim Petras has provided much-needed visibility for the trans community since she first made global headlines by coming out and unapologetically sharing her story with the world,” said Anthony Ramos, GLAAD Director of Talent Engagement. “Her energy, presence, and talent ensure that she will be a force for LGBTQ acceptance for years to come.”
GLAAD previously announced that RuPaul’s Drag Race judge Ross Mathews would be receiving the Davidson/Valentini Award at the event for the significant difference he has made in promoting equality and acceptance for the LGBTQ community.
GLAAD also announced open applications for the Rising Stars Grant for digital innovation, presented during the event. The Rising Stars Grant for digital innovation honors and supports young people’s commitment to culture-changing work in the fields of social media, digital media, and technology.
