New York – GLAAD, the world’s largest LGBTQ media advocacy organization, today applauded LGBTQ-inclusive and out nominees for the 70th Emmy® Awards.

“Today's list of Emmy nominees is a milestone moment for LGBTQ inclusion on television," said GLAAD President and CEO Sarah Kate Ellis. "With a surge of out actors and creators nominated alongside LGBTQ-inclusive scripted programming and LGBTQ-focused shows like Queer Eye and RuPaul's Drag Race, the Television Academy is finally reflecting how audiences and critics embrace diverse LGBTQ images on television. Emmy voters today sent a clear message of inclusion and acceptance which should be a signal for Hollywood to continue to tell powerful and impactful LGBTQ stories.”

Openly LGBTQ actors nominated include: Lily Tomlin, Evan Rachel Wood, Tituss Burgess, Ricky Martin, Kate McKinnon, Wanda Sykes, Jane Lynch, Samira Wiley, Cherry Jones, and Sarah Paulson. Out producer and director Ryan Murphy received nominations for The Assassination Of Gianni Versace: American Crime Story. Bi director Carrie Brownstein was nominated for Outstanding Directing for a Variety Series for her work on Portlandia. LGBTQ-inclusive programs and series including RuPaul’s Drag Race, Queer Eye, The Handmaid’s Tale, Steven Universe, and Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt also received nominations. Additionally, four of the five nominees for Outstanding Host For A Reality Or Reality-Competition Program are LGBTQ: Ellen DeGeneres, Tim Gunn, Jane Lynch, and RuPaul.
