Over the past 20 years, the GLAAD Media Awards have increased dramatically in size and scope. At the first GLAAD Media Awards in 1990, there were 34 nominees in seven categories. This year, we have 147 nominees in 23 English and nine Spanish-language categories – in addition to Special Honorees in each city.
We are proud to recognize all of this year’s outstanding nominees. Due to time limitations for each show, we are able to present only a selection of our 32 categories onstage during the GLAAD Media Awards ceremonies. Below is a list of categories currently scheduled to be given onstage at the 22nd Annual GLAAD Media Awards. These are selected to reflect the range of GLAAD’s work – a mix of print, broadcast and online news, entertainment and Spanish-language media.
As always, unforeseen production issues could cause this plan to change. For the most current list of awards being given onstage, please continue to visit http://www.glaad.org/mediaawards.
Any categories not listed below are not anticipated to be presented on stage. Award recipients in these categories will be announced in a press release immediately following the New York event on March 19, 2011.
