30th Annual GLAAD Media Awards - Call for Submissions

Submissions open on September 26, 2018. Please direct all inquiries to submissions@glaad.org.

The GLAAD Media Awards recognize and honor media for their fair, accurate and inclusive representations of the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer community and the issues that affect their lives.

Eligibility period:  January 1, 2018– December 31, 2018

Call for Submissions:  Entries are accepted at any time during the calendar year, but must be received before the submission deadline. For projects appearing between the deadline and December 31, please contact submissions@glaad.org to make special arrangements for submission.

Submission deadline:  Submissions will open in September 2018. A deadline will be announced at that time.

Why is the submission deadline before the end of the eligibility period?:  GLAAD will consider media images that appear between the submission deadline and December 31, 2017.  However, we require that all media projects that appeared before the submission deadline are submitted by the deadline.

For projects appearing between the deadline and December 31, please contact GLAAD at submissions@glaad.org to make special arrangements for submission.

Categories: A list of official categories and eligibility parameters are available at www.glaad.org/mediaawards/30/categories.

Must a media project be submitted in order to be nominated?

Mainstream Media – GLAAD monitors mainstream media on a year-round basis as part of our work to fight defamation and promote fair, accurate, and inclusive LGBTQ images in the media.  This monitoring provides a pool of potential nominees for review.  GLAAD may choose to nominate LGBTQ images from these media outlets – even if the image is not submitted.

Media Outlets Created By and For an LGBTQ Audience – GLAAD does not monitor media created by and for the LGBTQ community for defamation – therefore we do not generate a pool of potential nominees. Furthermore, the limited availability and distribution of this media means GLAAD is not physically able to monitor it. Therefore. ALL media outlets which are created by and for the LGBTQ community MUST submit their programming and journalism in order for it to be eligible for nomination.

Nominees announced: Nominees will be announced January 2019.  Please check www.glaad.org/mediaawards for the exact date.

Award recipients announced:  Award recipients will be announced at each of the 30th Annual GLAAD Media Awards ceremonies.  For the exact dates, please visit www.glaad.org/mediaawards.

Award Categories in Each City:  The award categories will be divided among the GLAAD Media Awards ceremonies.  In mid-February 2019, GLAAD will announce which awards will be given out onstage in each city.  (Due to the number of categories and limited amount of show time, not all awards will be announced onstage.)
