GLAAD operates with support from foundations, corporations and individuals from every corner of the United States. Our highly skilled team of more than 50 staff work out of our Headquarters in New York and an office in Los Angeles, and support our expanded reach through multiple chapters across the country. Over the past several years, GLAAD has achieved rapid and significant growth and currently has an annual operating budget of approximately $12 million.


The Opportunity

GLAAD is seeking a highly experienced, self-driven and highly entrepreneurial fundraising and development executive to be a key strategic partner to the President & CEO in driving and leading GLAAD’s corporate

Relations and events strategy and operations. The Vice President, Corporate Relations & Events will be one

of two key executive roles leading the Development Team responsible for shaping and driving the growth of GLAAD’s $12M fundraising program in the coming year, of which corporate sponsorships and events comprise approximately $6M. The leader in this role will be principally responsible for leveraging their significant corporate relationships, events management and fundraising experience to be successful.


Key Responsibilities


Leadership & Strategy

  • Develop and promote a high profile, high impact corporate relations and special events

strategy that results in at least $6M annually in corporate sponsorships supporting the

core mission and work of GLAAD

  • Assess historical and current approaches to this work across the development and fundraising programs to develop a value proposition strategy and ROI model for fundraising events and corporate engagement/sponsorship
  • Provide significant and inspiring leadership to a corporate relations and events management team comprised of six Directors, Managers and Coordinators, and ensure an integrated, strategic, and entrepreneurial approach to all corporate sponsorship development, event planning and program implementation
  • Work collaboratively with the Board, President & CEO, COO, Chief Communications Officer and other leadership team members to align resources and organizational relationships to support

all fundraising events and corporate relations activities

  • Serve as significant ambassador and external relationship builder representing the mission

and philanthropic goals of GLAAD in various venues and corporate/business settings on both

a local and national level

  • Coordinate resources, information and expertise to align corporate and company involvement 

with GLAAD’s social impact

  • Develop key performance indicators and provide to the President & CEO on an on-going basis management reports documenting fundraising activities and results


Corporate Relations/Sponsorships

  • Own the vision and execution of a robust and high impact corporate relations strategy, including cultivation of existing and a new pipeline of corporate and community partners, sponsors and supporters across multiple industry sectors for the purpose of securing at least $6 million in

corporate sponsorships

  • Develop a business development growth strategy that fosters long-term corporate sponsorship opportunities and philanthropic support of six and seven figure commitments
  • Serve as external ambassador and relationship manager with corporate and community partners

to build increased awareness and opportunities for creating long-term value for corporate partners through the alignment of business needs and the philanthropic goals of GLAAD

  • Generate promotion and solicitation strategy and concepts including branding of a corporate relations/sponsorship program aligned with the GLAAD mission
  • Deliver on-going support and assistance to corporate supporters to fulfill GLAAD’s value proposition
  • Work collaboratively across the GLAAD organization to access operational and infrastructure

resources in the areas of marketing, communications and finance to support the overall corporate relations and fundraising strategy

  • Serve as principal point of contact for existing and new corporate partners and prospects, and funnel these relationships up to the Board, President & CEO and other senior leadership as appropriate
  • Help determine and refine corporate fundraising target goals, levels of support, and related benefits

for industry segments

  • Maintain reporting system to track fundraising results and assure that data is integrated into GLAAD’s CRM solution and fundraising database
  • Work collaboratively with the Communications, Digital and Creative Departments to develop all corporate solicitation materials, including proposals, written solicitations, sponsorship documents, personalized acknowledgements, and other marketing collateral


Special Events

  • Serve in the role of Executive Producer to oversee and supervise the implementation of a robust series of exceptional fundraising and cultivation events including GLAAD Produced events, such as the NY

GLAAD Media Awards, LA GLAAD Media Awards, the San Francisco Gala and other key events –

both small and large-scale

  • Work with the Events Management staff to set fundraising goals and ROI strategy for all events produced by GLAAD; plan the event calendar for the year; and coordinate all event logistics,

budgeting, vendor relations and promotion activities to support the events

  • Work closely with Communications and Digital and Creative Departments to develop event concepts

and plans; coordinate a compelling donor solicitation plan, and implement communication/social media strategy to ensure widespread promotion of and event participation

  • Shape the vison for and oversee event programs and activities, including messaging, speakers, run of show/script and entertainment and other event details
  • Ensure comprehensive and effective stewardship strategies are applied to all event supporters, sponsors, and vendors to help ensure long-term and repeated engagement
  • Assure that the events management team coordinates staff and volunteer engagement to support event activities
  • Implement evaluation tools to assess post-event performance results and produce performance reports for follow up by the events management team and further consideration by senior executive leadership 


Candidate Profile | Competencies | Personal Qualities

The ideal candidate should possess the following experience, competencies and personal qualities:


Experience | Education

  • Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university; Master’s Degree preferred
  • Minimum of 10 years’ experience in business development; cultivation of major corporate partnerships and sponsorships; and oversight of corporate event planning and execution with a proven track record of raising significant revenues to support a social impact cause, start-up venture or nonprofit enterprise
  • A proven network of corporate relationships and track record of success raising multi-million dollar levels of new revenues through large corporate sponsorships and fundraising events
  • Experience and demonstrated success cultivating and building a diverse pipeline of corporate donors and supporters through formal sales channels in varied industry segments
  • Experience conceptualizing and implementing funding and sales pitch presentations to senior executive and C-Suite leadership in diverse industries including media, advertising and entertainment
  • Technology savvy with ability to conceptualize technology needs to support corporate relations activities and events management and programming
