The Opportunity

GLAAD is seeking a dynamic and driven Staff Accountant that reports to the Director of Finance and is responsible for recording journal entries, preparing balance sheet account analysis, accounts payable processing, audit support, and helping to ensure the accuracy of financial statements prepared for the month-end close process.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist in the month-end close process including bank reconciliations, accruals, journal entries and reviewing General Ledger transactions.
  • Obtain and maintain a thorough understanding of the financial reporting and general ledger structure requirements of the organization.
  • Maintain detailed reconciliations of all balance sheet accounts on a monthly basis and assist in periodic reconciliations of all accounts to ensure their accuracy
  • Perform daily/weekly cash management journal entries
  • Create required adjusting journal entries and related reclassifying entries.
  • Review and process all expense reports - analyze the data and explain variances
  • Handle AP processes; manage vendor balances, inquiries and payments
  • Ensure an accurate and timely month and year-end revenue reconciliation with the Database department
  • Record and maintain cash receipts, revenue schedules and documents
  • Assist in monitoring expense report coding and supporting documentation
  • Assist with preparation of year-end external audit and audit schedules
  • Assist with financial planning and budgeting processes.
  • Respond to inquiries from the Chief Operating Officer, Director of Finance and other staff regarding financial reporting and special reporting requests
  • Ad hoc projects

Experience | Education:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting

Competencies | Personal qualities

  • 2+ years of overall combined accounting and finance experience
  • Experience with general ledger functions and the month-end/year-end close process
  • Excellent accounting software user and administration skills. MIP and Nexonia experience a plus
  • Highly skilled in creating and maintaining spreadsheets
  • Responding quickly and accurately to internal and external requests
  • Researching and resolving issues through internal and external communications
  • Must enjoy working in a collaborative team setting

Compensation 

Competitive salary commensurate with experience.
