As the world’s largest lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer (LGBTQ) media advocacy organization, GLAAD is at the forefront of accelerating acceptance to ensure fair, accurate, and inclusive representation that leads to cultural change. For over 30 years, GLAAD has been a dynamic media force rewriting the script for LGBTQ acceptance. Our work tackles tough issues that shape the narrative and provoke dialogue that leads to cultural change. 

GLAAD operates with support from foundations, corporations and individuals from every corner of the United States. Our highly skilled team of more than 40 staff work out of our Headquarters in New York and an office in Los Angeles, and support our expanded reach through multiple chapters across the country. Over the past several years, GLAAD has achieved rapid and significant growth and currently has an annual operating budget of approximately $12 million.


The Opportunity

GLAAD is seeking a proven, entrepreneurial and resourceful fundraising and development TEMP to PERM professional to help shape and significantly advance GLAAD’s institutional giving program to contribute to GLAAD’s overall annual fundraising goals. Reporting to the Chief Development Officer, the Sr. Grants Writer / Researcher will play a pivotal role in cultivating meaningful and long-term relationships with private, family, community and corporate foundations resulting in $4M in revenues from this network of current and newly engaged partners committed to issues impacting the LGBTQ community. This is an outstanding opportunity to join a fast-paced, collaborative and creative fundraising team forging new directions and approaches that push the bar on driving revenues to support the critically important work of GLAAD. 


Candidate Profile | Competencies | Personal Qualities

The ideal candidate should possess the following experience, competencies and personal qualities:


Experience | Education: 

  • Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university; Master’s Degree preferred
  • Minimum of 10 years’ fundraising experience with a prominent, high profile nonprofit organization supported by a proven track record of cultivating relationships with a diverse network of private, family, community and corporate foundations and securing grants in the $100K - $1M range
  • Deep understanding and knowledge of the community of institutional funders in New York, LA and across the country supporting social impact issues and programs in the LGBTQ community

  • Superior project management skills including ability to manage projects under pressure with multiple and competing deadlines
  • Engaging partnership and relationship building skills with exceptional ability to successfully close deals resulting in six and seven figure grants and funding support of GLAAD’s work
  • Working knowledge of the full Microsoft Office 365 Suite, Raisers Edge or other fundraising and project management software
  • Strong commitment and passion for GLAAD’s mission and core values
  • Flexible and willing to travel and work alternative schedules as needed
