JOB SUMMARY

Reporting to the Executive Vice President of GLAAD’s Media Institute, the Head of Research will be responsible for leading and owning all research and analytics across all of GLAAD’s verticals in the areas of entertainment, media and advertising and using qualitative and quantitative analysis to develop audience insights and inform GLAAD’s programming in these areas to drive LGBTQ acceptance. The Head of Research will be a strategic thought partner to the Executive Vice President in assessing audience demand, national trends and growth opportunities for the expansion and advancement of GLAAD’s work. This role will build best in class systems, processes, survey tools and reporting capabilities to support all research and analytic activities and programs.

Additionally, the Head of Research will collaborate with all of GLAAD’s operating divisions and provide oversight and align the work of the Director of Entertainment Research and other consulting partners responsible for targeted media research.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS & RESPONSIBILITIES

Strategy, Vision & Leadership

  • In partnership with the EVP of GLAAD’ Media institute, set a broad and integrated vision, strategy and roadmap for building a best-in-class research and analytics infrastructure to support multiple GLAAD Media Institute verticals.
  • Oversee and set the vision and strategy for all existing and new research activities, analytics and polling across all content and programming areas of GLAAD, including developing markets, partnerships, and opportunities for GLAAD Research to be picked up by media, advocates, and organizations in a manner that accelerates LGBTQ acceptance.
  • Lead and drive efforts to monetize and build new revenue streams to support GLAAD’s research activities through the cultivation of relationships with funders, corporations and other organizations.
  • Provide counsel, inspiring leadership and direction to the GLAAD research team including strategy consultants whose work touches on research to ensure that there is vision alignment and measurable impact and outcomes of all research activities. 
  • Own the presentation of research findings to GLAAD senior leadership to help shape new directions and programming activities to further promote LGBTQ acceptance.
  • Collaborate with multiple stakeholders and cross functional teams to understand business goals and ensure that the design and implementation of all research projects and related activities support decision-making and programming across the key verticals of GLAAD’s Media Institute.
  • Keep informed of emerging trends and developments in the research arena and leverage this knowledge to provide significant thought leadership to advance GLAAD’s core work and mission.     

Research Implementation, Analytics & Project Oversight

  • Lead and drive all existing and new proprietary quantitative and qualitative studies from conceptualization stage to final report presentation including determining all research methodologies, processes, data measures and metrics. 
  • Develop with the senior leadership and research team, a robust and disciplined approach for all research design and analysis to ensure deliverables are met and project goals achieved. 
  • Effectively manage a diverse range of projects by monitoring key timelines and details, development of research tools and techniques, analysis of data, and delivery of final reports with relevant findings.
  • Cultivate and foster relationships with both internal and external parties to support research activities and outcomes.
  • Translate research into actionable ideas and initiatives that influence brands and programming 
  • in the media, entertainment and advertising industries that promote LGBTQ acceptance. 
  • Use analytics and KPI to track and analyze cultural trends, opportunities, and successes.
  • Standardize GLAAD’s systems, processes, methodologies and technologies utilized to support all research activities.
  • Perform other duties as may be assigned by the Executive Vice President, GLAAD Media Institute.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE: 

  • Undergraduate degree in marketing, research or a related field required. Master’s preferred.
  • 12-15 years of progressively responsible research experience; of which at least seven years were in a senior leadership role leading the research function in the marketing entertainment, media and advertising industries.
  • Background in designing, executing, and analyzing qualitative research and other qualitative methods that provide information and new insights to inform programming and organizational planning.
  • Strong experience in quantitative research, including survey design, creative question writing, sample design, and analysis.
  • Experience managing large, complex research projects and teams involving media and entertainment
  • Prior experience in a research role and social impact organization with established connections in the LGBTQ community is a strong plus.

  • Project Management: Exceptionally strong analytic, quantitative and project management abilities with high level of attention to detail and accuracy.  Able to set priorities, balance multiple small and large-scale projects, meet tight deadlines and incorporate data into the decision-making process.
  • Tech Savvy: Extensive knowledge of a diverse technologies and systems that support research, data collection and KPI/ analytics.
  • Adaptable & Flexible: Ability to thrive in a very fast-paced, creative and dynamic environment.
  • Passionate: Love all things media, entertainment and advertising with a proven track record of LGBTQ advocacy.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS & WORKING CONDITIONS

  • Must possess mobility to work in a standard office setting and to use standard office equipment, including a computer.
  • Willingness to travel within the city and nationally as necessary; and work alternative work schedules and remotely as needed, including nights/weekends.

Competitive salary commensurate with experience.
