For over 30 years, GLAAD has been a dynamic media force rewriting the script for LGBTQ acceptance. Our work tackles tough issues that shape the narrative and provoke dialogue that leads to cultural change.

GLAAD operates with support from foundations, corporations and individuals from every corner of the United States. We pride ourselves on recruiting a highly skilled staff of more than 50 people in multiple offices and managing an annual operating budget in excess of $12 million.

ROLE

Reporting to the Executive Vice-President of Development, the Director of Foundation Relations develops and implements strategy to secure funding from private, family, community, and corporate foundations. They will identify, cultivate, solicit and steward foundation donors, and will manage site visits and required narrative and financial reporting. They will conduct prospect research and work with GLAAD staff to identify organizational priorities and projects that align with foundations’ interests.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Devise a fundraising plan to secure foundation partnerships to meet or exceed an annual revenue goal of $2,000,000.
  • Research foundation prospects and cultivate long-term relationships with foundations to support GLAAD’s programmatic work.
  • Work with Board, Leadership Council, and volunteer corporate committees to cultivate and solicit new foundations interested in supporting GLAAD’s work.
  • Collaborate with GLAAD staff to prepare letters of intent, proposals, budgets, narrative and financial reports, and other written materials as needed.
  • Develop and steward foundation relationships and serve as primary liaison for foundation partners.
  • Oversee the Foundations Department budget, tracking income and expenditures.  Prepare monthly, quarterly, and yearly reports and financial analyses for the Senior Management Team.
  • Utilize Raiser’s Edge to track foundation pledges and payments.
  • Other duties as assigned or requested.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • College degree or equivalent.
  • 5+ years proven track record working with and cultivating relationships with major private foundations and corporate funders, and experience closing grants of at least $100,000.
  • Superior organization, communications, analytical and logistics skills. A proven concern for detail, organization, and timely follow through. Tenacious commitment to achievement of agreed-upon targets.
  • Superior project management skills, including managing projects with multiple and competing deadlines and the ability to work under pressure.
  • Ability to work independently, to work under supervision and to work in a fast-paced, goal oriented team environment.
  • Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel, donor database software background, specifically Raiser’s Edge, and project management software, specifically Basecamp.
  • Public speaking experience, positive attitude and sense of humor desired.
  • Willingness to pitch in and help with projects across departments.
  • Strong commitment to GLAAD’s mission and vision.
  • Willingness to travel, work alternative work schedules as needed, including nights/weekends a must.

Competitive salary, commensurate with experience.
