Rex Tillerson
—As an employee of Exxon for forty years, including eleven years as CEO, Tillerson served one of the most notoriously anti-LGBTQ Fortune companies. The company held a -25% rating (less than 0%) on the Human Rights Campaign’s Corporate Equality Index a full seven years into Tillerson’s tenure as CEO. It wasn’t until the Obama administration and courts began forcing the issue from a federal level that Exxon began making positive changes on LGBTQ equality. How much Tillerson contributed to the change is an open debate.
The GLAAD Accountability Project catalogs anti-LGBTQ rhetoric and discriminatory actions of politicians, commentators, organization heads, religious leaders, and legal figures, who have used their platforms, influence and power to spread misinformation and harm LGBTQ people.
