—One of the most vocal congressional opponents of the Obama administration’s guidance in support of transgender public school students using the bathroom in accordance with their gender identity, calling it a “blatant political stunt” while denying that gender identity should be considered as part of sex discrimination.

Rejected the Supreme Court’s historic decision in favor of marriage equality, saying “My faith is very important to me and serves as a guiding light for the values I hold dear.”

Has said he opposes an individual state’s right to recognize not only marriage equality, but even civil unions 

—Joined most conservative members of Congress on a letter to President Trump condemning the inclusion of sexual orientation and gender identity in a trilateral free trade agreement between Mexico and Canada.

—Was given award by the viciously anti-LGBTQ Family Research Council for his 100 percent record on “faith and family” issues, including his blocking of DOD funding for gender confirmation surgery.

Voted against a resolution expressing opposition to the Trump administration’s ban on transgender soldiers.

—Has insisted that “religious freedom” is “under assault by the far-left,” and he has vowed to enact measures to protect conservatives from repercussions for opposing things like marriage equality.

The GLAAD Accountability Project catalogs anti-LGBTQ rhetoric and discriminatory actions of politicians, commentators, organization heads, religious leaders, and legal figures, who have used their platforms, influence and power to spread misinformation and harm LGBTQ people.
