WWE stands up for LGBT students this #SpiritDay

Today WWE stands together with GLAAD in support of LGBT students for this year's Spirit Day. WWE has participated in Spirit Day every year since 2011.

The organization has encouraged followers and visitors to WWE's homepage to "go purple." A large Spirit Day promotional banner on the top of the page links visitors to GLAAD's Spirit Day hub.

WWE has shown its dedication to creating safe spaces in not only schools but also the league and the arena, for athletes and fans alike. In years past, WWE has partnered with The Creative Coalition to create the "Be a STAR" (Show Tolerance and Respect) campaign to "ensure a positive and equitable social environment for everyone regardless of age, race, religion or sexual orientation through grassroots efforts beginning with education and awareness."

In addition, several WWE Superstars and Divas went purple for Spirit Day.

Let’s show the #LGBT youth that we’ve got their back. Take a stand against bullying by wearing PURPLE tomorrow for GLAAD's #SpiritDay

With WWE's support, we can pack a punch against bullying this Spirit Day.

On October 15, Spirit Day inspires millions to "go purple" to support LGBT youth in a united stand against bullying. According to GLSEN's 2013 National School Climate Survey, 8 out of 10 LGBT students experience harassment at school, and over 60% of LGBT students who did report a bullying case said their school staff did nothing. Spirit Day draws the participation of celebrities, corporations, media outlets, sports leagues, schools, faith institutions, national landmarks, and individuals around the world to take a stand against bullying and show their support for LGBT youth.

You can go purple now by putting on purple, posting about #spiritday, and sharing your favorite #spiritday posts on social media. Go to www.glaad.org/spiritday to turn your profile picture purple and learn more ways to get involved in Spirit Day.

Spirit Day is made possible by the generous support of its presenting Partners Wells Fargo and Target; official partners DOW, Google, NBA and WNBA, NFL and WWE; and supporting partners American Eagle Outfitters, Barilla, Chobani, Comcast NBC Universal, Kirkland and Ellis, and Toyota.
