Video: Eagle Scout and Scouts for Equality founder Zach Wahls gives moving speech to DNC

Scouts for Equality founder Zach Wahls on Thursday gave a moving speech to the Democratic National Convention about his experience growing up with two moms. Zach said in the speech:

"People want to know what it's like having lesbian parents. I'll let you in on a little secret: I'm awesome at putting the seat down. Otherwise, we're like any other family. We eat dinner, we go to church, we have chores."

In the speech, Zach mentioned his time as an Eagle Scout, which had previously motivated Zach to work with GLAAD and ousted scout mom Jennifer Tyrrell on changing the discriminatory policy that prevents gay scouts and leaders. In May, Zach delivered more than 275,000 signatures to the Boy Scouts of America at its National Annual Meeting in Florida, calling on the group to end its long history of anti-gay discrimination and reinstate Jennifer.

Two months later, Zach launched a Change.org petition calling on the Boy Scouts to let its Executive Board vote on a resolution that would end the ban once and for all.

GLAAD, Zach and Jennifer have been working tirelessly to end the ban. Check out some milestones in our campaign, and watch a video of Zach at the GLAAD Media Awards in New York City below.
