Viacom networks BET, CMT, Logo, MTV, TeenNick, TV Land and VH1 and their stars join millions in going purple for #SpiritDay on 10/17

Viacom networks BET, CMT, Logo, MTV, TeenNick, TV Land and VH1 are going purple once again this Thursday, October 17 for #SpiritDay in a stand against bullying and to show their support for LGBT youth.

From TV Land, Betty White and the cast of Hot in Cleveland filmed a special Spirit Day video showing their support for LGBT youth. Eric Petersen from the upcoming show Kirstie also took a stand against bullying and recorded a video for LGBT youth! Check it out below! TV Land's logos on Twitter, Facebook, and YouTube are all in purple as well!

MTV talent including Ke$ha, Nick Cannon, Nicole ‘Snooki’ Polizzi and Jenni ‘JWOWW’ Farley from Snooki and JWOWW, Dylan O'Brien and Tyler Posey from Teen Wolf, Alice Wetterlund from Girl Code, Nev Schulman and Max Joseph from Catfish: The TV Show, DJ Pauly D, Sammi Sweetheart as well as Molly Tarlov and Jillian Rose Reed from Awkward.

For the third year in a row, MTV and mtvU will turn purple on-air and online to celebrate Spirit Day, as will MTV’s Times Square screens.  

MTV’s ACT Blog, which will also go purple, will feature special coverage of the day, and the first 500 people who share a purple-themed photo with MTV’s “A Thin Line” campaign on Facebook or Twitter using the hashtag #SpiritDay will receive a free “A Thin Line” bracelet. The "A Thin Line" campaign, which empowers young people to help stop the spread of digital abuse, has already inspired more than 1.5 million young people to take action.

VH1, Logo and TV Land will also turn on-air logos purple on Spirit Day! Hosts of VH1's Big Morning Buzz Live and The Gossip Table will be sporting purple on-air.

 

 

BET's 106 & Park will also turn purple, with the hosts dressing in purple and incorporating the messages of Spirit Day into the show.

The cast of TeenNick's Degrassi are serving as Spirit Day ambassadors and also shot a video encouraging their fans to participate.

Logo's NewNowNext.com will post an editorial piece and YouTube star Davey Wavey will post an exclusive video. Logo employees will get in on the action as well, with purple staff pics being posted to the net's Tumblr and Facebook pages.

Viacom's social responsibility umbrella Viacommunity and CMT will support Spirit Day through their social media outlets.

Around the world, celebrities like Demi Lovato, Macklemore and Ryan Lewis, country singer Kacey Musgraves, Glee's Dot Marie Jones, Lauren Potter, Alex Newell and Iqbal Theba; brands like Johnson & Johnson, the Coca-Cola Company and Facebook; organizations; national sports leagues; media outlets; landmarks; faith groups; and schools are going purple for Spirit Day to show support for LGBT Youth. Founded in 2010, Spirit Day, which will be held on October 17 this year, is an international united stand against bullying and show of support for LGBT teens and young adults everywhere. Participants can get into the spirit by

  • Turning your Facebook, Twitter and other profile photos purple at www.glaad.org/spiritday and spreading the word by using hashtag #SpiritDay
  • Wearing purple on October 17th and encouraging classmates or coworkers to do the same
  • Uploading photos of you wearing purple to Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and Tumblr using hashtag #SpiritDay and Spirit Day graphics
  • Downloading the Spirit Day App
  • Educating your friends and family about bullying and the LGBT community
  • Getting your school, GSA, organization, etc. to become a Spirit Day partner
