Starz's Vida wins Outstanding Comedy Series at the 30th Annual GLAAD Media Awards in Los Angeles

At the 30th Annual GLAAD Media Awards ceremony in Los Angeles last evening, the award for Outstanding Comedy Series went to Starz’s Vida. The cast of Vida and showrunner Tanya Saracho accepted the award on-stage from Olivia Munn and Grey’s Anatomy’s Jake Borelli and Alex Landi. Vida’s full acceptance speech can be seen below:

Vida follows the stories of two Mexican-American sisters who return home to the Eastside of Los Angeles upon the death of their mother, who, unbeknownst to them, was in a relationship with a woman. The inclusion of numerous queer Latinx characters, including lead roles, bold storytelling, a talented cast and the look of the show made it a critical and GLAAD stand out. At times heartbreaking, at times funny, often sexually frank, and always fresh, Vida brings to life stories in which people interact as beautifully and messily as in the real world. In addition to telling great stories on screen, show runner Tanya Saracho takes time off screen to let the world know why representation matters - proudly hiring women, Latinx and queer talent for her writer’s room and as directors.

The other nominees in this category included Brooklyn Nine-Nine, Crazy Ex-Girlfriend, Dear White People, Modern Family, One Day at a Time, Schitt's Creek, Superstore, This Close and Will & Grace.

The 30th Annual GLAAD Media Awards continue in New York City on Saturday, May 4th. GLAAD previously announced that Madonna will receive the Advocate for Change Award and Andy Cohen will receive the Vito Russo Award from Sarah Jessica Parker at the New York ceremony.
