Not only did social media go purple yesterday for #SpiritDay but so did broadcast airwaves. On the nightly national newscasts Maria Elena Salinas, Ilia Calderon and Enrique Acevedo on Univision and Maria Celeste Arrarás and José Díaz Balart on Telemundo wore purple and mentioned #Spirit Day. Noticiero Univision featured a segment speaking with people who'd been bullied, as well as with GLAAD.
They joined many of their colleagues in local news programming from Puerto Rico to Los Angeles and the major morning shows Despierta América and Un Nuevo Día. Support like this is crucial because it helps Latinos watching in their homes who may not be connected to the Internet to understand the importance of support and acceptance in the lives of LGBT youth. A big thank you to the LGBT people who shared their stories about being bullied in order to raise awareness. We shared with glaad.org readers yesterday pictures of the many celebrities who participated, and here are a few more Lili Estéfan, Galilea Montijo, Mónica Noguera, Juan Manuel Cortés, Ileanna Simancas, Maity Interiano, Karen Anzoategui and Carmen Dominicci.
