GLAAD is on the ground in Hawaii as the Aloha State readies to begin civil unions for same-sex couples. GLAAD is working with news outlets like the Hawaii Tribune Herald to share the stories of loving and committed gay and lesbian couples in an effort to build acceptance and increase understanding across the nation.
- GLAAD joined Puerto Rican pop sensation Ricky Martin in helping to raise visibility around anti-LGBT legislation currently on the docket in Puerto Rico. Puerto Rico’s House of Representatives is soon expected to vote on an amendment that would strip LGBT citizens of vital hate crime protections.
- GLAAD’s Spanish-Language Media team worked closely with reporter Edwin J. Tamara of the Associated Press Spanish Desk on a story about transgender women seeking asylum. The article also quotes GLAAD’s Spanish-Language Media Reference Guide to explain transgender terminology to readers.
