Wonder what we’re up to at GLAAD?

• GLAAD’s Media Field Strategy team recently met with LGBT Faith Leaders of African Descent, an organization composed of clergy, divinity students, and faith leaders who represent diverse interdenominational religious institutions, to assist with media strategy and outreach and to develop talking points for media-related coverage. GLAAD is working closely with the organization to elevate the stories of black LGBT-affirming congregations and faith leaders.
  
• GLAAD’s Religion, Faith & Values team recently participated in a panel discussion at Compass to Compassion, a United Nations consultation that discussed global homophobia and criminalization of the lives of LGBT people and addressed the partnership between pro-LGBT faith communities, human rights organizations and governmental agencies. GLAAD’s teams participated on a social media panel and discussed effective ways to bring awareness of global LGBT persecution to an American audience.
   
• GLAAD’s Media Field Strategy and Spanish-Language Media teams recently held English and Spanish media spokespeople trainings at the Models of Pride Conference, a free conference for LGBT youth held at the University of Southern California. The young people were trained on how to speak to the media regarding LGBT issues as well as given talking points and resources about media-related practices and the importance of media outreach.
   
• GLAAD’s Media Field Strategy team worked with Trans People of Color Coalition, a national social justice organization that promotes the interests of transgender people of color, to develop its public messaging and digital and media efforts.
   
• GLAAD, in partnership with the American Federation of Teachers (AFT), launched its news PSA series Amplify Your Voice! The series features celebrities including Amy Poehler, Dustin Lance Black, Rashida Jones, Naya Rivera, Chaz Bono, and Russell Simmons as well as local youth from the New York Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender Community Center’s Youth Enrichment Services (YES) Program speaking out against anti-LGBT bullying.
