PHOTOS: 'Pride Wall' at Westfield Mission Valley

In partnership with GLAAD, Westfield debuted a collaborative, crowd-sourced 'Pride Wall' at its Mission Valley location in San Diego. The wall features a series of portraits as well as reflections from those photographed beginning with "I'm Proud Of…" or "Love is..."

One daughter phographed for the wall reflects, "I'm proud of my mom for teaching me to love a person for what they are and what they believe in." In addition, among some of the longer features, a high school teacher named Laramie explains, “I support all my LGBT students. We discuss how the LGBT community is very important to San Diego, especially out in Hillcrest. The LGBT community is a great role model in how we should strive to support other communities and help them grow.”

In addition to the wall, two other Westfield malls in San Diego have begun to celebrate Pride with LGBT public displays. Westfield UTC houses a marquee that has been lit-up in rainbow colors, and Westfield Horton Plaza created its own 'Pride Wall' in addition to rainbow stairs within the center. All three shopping centers also collaborated on a fashion-themed float for Saturday's LGBT Pride Parade in San Diego.

“We are grateful to Westfield for their ongoing commitment to accelerate acceptance for the LGBT community,” said GLAAD President and CEO Sarah Kate Ellis. “While we have so much to celebrate this year there is much more work to do to secure essential protections in housing, employment and services for LGBT people across the country.”

Be sure to visit any of these Westfield locations from now until Sunday, July 26 (timing varies at each center), and look out for the float at the parade this Saturday. You can also visit Facebook for pride-themed games in addition to to create a graphic with the hashtag #LoveIsLove or #GotYourBack as a part of GLAAD's ongoing #GotYourBack campaign.
