The NAACP recently announced the nominees for the 43rd Image Awards. The NAACP Image Awards, a multi-cultural awards show, celebrates the outstanding achievements and performances of people of color in television, recording, motion picture and more. This year’s nominations recognize numerous films and TV series with LGBT characters and LGBT-inclusive storylines as well as 2012 GLAAD Media Awards nominees.
Focus Features film Pariah received a whopping seven nominations: (1) Outstanding Motion Picture; (2) Outstanding Actress in a Motion Picture (Adepero Oduye); (3) Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Motion Picture (Charles Parnell); (4) Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Motion Picture (Kim Wayans); (5) Outstanding Independent Motion Picture; (6) Outstanding Writing in a Motion Picture - Theatrical or Television (Dee Rees); (7) Outstanding Directing in a Motion Picture - Theatrical or Television (Dee Rees).
Nelsan Ellis who plays a gay character on HBO’s “True Blood” is nominated for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama Series. Meanwhile Archie Panjabi, who plays a bisexual investigator on CBS’s “The Good Wife,” is nominated for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama Series.
Talent was also recognized in the following LGBT-inclusive programs: ABC’s “Happy Endings” (Outstanding Writing in a Comedy Series, Outstanding Directing in a Comedy Series, and Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series), TNT’s “SouthLAnd” (Outstanding Writing in a Dramatic Series and Outstanding Actress in a Drama Series), ABC’s “Grey’s Anatomy” (Outstanding Writing in a Dramatic Series, Outstanding Drama Series, Outstanding Actress in a Drama Series, and Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama Series), ABC’s “Modern Family” (Outstanding Comedy Series and Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series), FOX’s “Glee” (Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series), Showtime’s “The Big C” (Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series), CBS’s “The Good Wife” (Outstanding Drama Series), and ABC’s “Dancing with the Stars” (Outstanding Reality Series).
