Laverne Cox, Ellen DeGeneres among nominees for Daytime Emmy Awards

The National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences (NATAS) has announced the nominees for its 42nd Annual Daytime Emmy Awards. Several LGBT-inclusive shows, out characters, and out daytime television personalities are among the nominees. The 42nd Annual Daytime Emmy Award show will be broadcast live from the Warner Bros. Studio in Burbank on Sunday, April 26, exclusively on Pop at 8:00 pm EDT/5:00 pm PDT.

The MTV special Laverne Cox Presents: The T Word, hosted and executive produced by Cox, is nominated for Outstanding Special Class Special. The documentary looks at the lives of seven trans youth, who range from ages 12 – 24, and explores their individual journeys to overcome challenges such as bullying and anti-transgender violence. Syndicated favorite The Ellen DeGeneres Show has picked up nominations in 10 categories, including Outstanding Talk Show / Entertainment. Also in the Outstanding Talk Show / Entertainment category is The Talk (CBS), which features out co-host Sara Gilbert and is nominated for a total of 7 awards. Culinary morning show The Chew (ABC), co-hosted by out TV personality Clinton Kelly, is nominated twice, including Talk Show / Informative. Kelly and his four other Chew co-hosts are nominated for Outstanding Informative Talk Show Host.

ABC's Good Morning America, which features out anchor Robin Roberts, NBC's Today Show, with out correspondent Jenna Wolfe, and CBS' Sunday Morning, featuring out correspondent Mo Rocca, are nominated for Outstanding Morning Program. Mo Rocca is also host of My Grandmother's Ravioli, which is nominated for Outstanding Culinary Program. LGBT-inclusive web-series Beacon Hill the Series, East Los High, and Anacostia are among the nominees for Outstanding New Approaches Drama Series.

ABC's LGBT-inclusive soap General Hospital is the most-nominated program, racking up a total of 28 nominations, including Outstanding Drama Series. Inclusive daily dramas The Bold and the Beautiful (CBS) and Days of Our Lives (NBC) join General Hospital in the Outstanding Drama Series Category. The Bold and the Beautiful is nominated in 19 categories, while Days of Our Lives trails slightly behind with 16 nominations, including a nod to one of its actors in Outstanding Younger Actor in a Drama Series for Freddie Smith's portrayal of out character Sonny Kiriakis.
