Hillary Clinton and Ellen DeGeneres show support for young gay Human of New York

Humans of New York (HONY) published a photograph last week of an emotional young boy who is quoted as saying, "I'm homosexual and I'm afraid of what my future will be and that people won't like me." He received an overwhelmingly positive and supportive response with over half a million likes on Facebook and in the comments. Thousands of people wrote affirming messages and assured him how loved he is.

Among those who responded were Hillary Clinton and Ellen DeGeneres. Clinton gave a maternal confirmation that everything will be okay for him. She said, "Prediction from a grown-up: Your future is going to be amazing. You will surprise yourself with what you're capable of and the incredible things you go on to do. Find the people who love and believe in you - there will be lots of them. –H"  It is believed that signing the comment with an H signified that it came directly from her instead of her campaign team.

DeGeneres did the same by commenting, "Not only will people like you, they'll love you. I just heard of you and I love you already."

Support from figures as prominent as Clinton and DeGeneres helps influence the public towards acceptance. The HONY post amplified the boy's voice, and the tremendous response from both LGBT people and allies empowered him and those just like him.
