1) Sleeping with Other People opens in theaters today. The film follows Lainey and Jake, two sex addicts who have re-connected years after losing their virginities to each other and decide to try being just friends now. Natasha Lyonne stars as Kara, Lainey's best friend, with Remy Nozik playing Kara's girlfriend, George. Check out the trailer below.
2) The official U.S. trailer for the upcoming drama Carol is out now! The film is based on Patricia Highsmith's novel The Price of Salt, which follows the romance between Carol, a married woman (Cate Blanchett), and Therese, a department store worker (Rooney Mara) during the 1950s in New York City. Carol, which won the 2015 Queer Palm Award when it premiered at Cannes Film Festival earlier this year, hits theaters in select cities November 20.
3) American Horror Story: Hotel has released its first trailer. The season's cast includes bisexual singer Lady Gaga as The Countess/Elizabeth who was previously romantically involved with Ramona Royale (Angela Bassett). Lily Rabe will also make a guest star appearance as the real life queer serial killer Aileen Wuornos. Check out the Hotel trailer below, the season premieres October 7 on FX.
4) Out fitness trainer Bob Harper has taken over as the new host of NBC's The Biggest Loser. Harper has been involved with the series since its first season. In other casting news, out actress Emily Rios has joined the USA pilot Shooter opposite Ryan Phillippe. She will play Nadine Memphis, an ambitious FBI agent who uncovers a conspiracy theory that puts her life in danger. The British soap opera Coronation Street, available on Hulu in the U.S., has cast Rhea Bailey as Caz, the soldier fiancé of Kate Connor.
5) The FOX hit drama Empire returns on September 23, but the first two songs from the new season are out now! Jussie Smollett (Jamal) and guest star Pitbull team up for the first track "No Doubt About It," while "Ain't About the Money" sees Smollett singing with co-star Bryshere "Yazz" Gray (Hakeem). Also out now is the first look at Marisa Tomei as lesbian billionaire venture capitalist Mimi Whiteman.
6) Out singer Sam Smith has been confirmed as the singer for the theme song of the upcoming James Bond film Spectre. The track, "Writing's On The Wall," is available for pre-order now. Spectre, starring out actor Ben Whishaw as Q, hits theaters on November 6.
7) The new novel Star Wars: Aftermath has introduced three new LGBT characters to the series world, including a gay hero. Sinjir Rath Velus was an Imperial loyalty officer who is now fighting with the Rebellion after seeing the horrors of war on Endor. Other new characters include Esmelle and her wife Shirene who agree to take in Esmelle's sister's child while she is off fighting.
8) The eight day festival Word*Rock*&Sword: A Festival Exploration of Women’s Lives kicks off in New York City this Sunday the 13th and will run through the 20th, this will be the fifth annual festival which was started by out artist Toshi Reagon. 9) The short film TIDE has launched a Kickstarter campaign to raise funds for post-production and submission expenses. The film follows lesbian couple Sam and Luna who lead a quiet life by the sea and are dealing with building a life and facing loss. TIDE is directed by British actress Georgie Henley, best known for portraying Lucy in the Chronicles of Narnia films. You can find out more at TIDE's Kickstarter page.
