Every week, The GLAAD Wrap brings you LGBT-related entertainment news highlights, fresh stuff to watch out for, and fun diversions to help you kick off the weekend.
1) From Fox Searchlight Pictures comes Baggage Claim, in theaters this week, a romantic comedy about flight attendant Montana Moore (Paula Patton) and her quest to find a husband before her younger sister's wedding. What ensues is Montana co-conspiring with out flight attendant Sam (Adam Brody) to track her ex-boyfriends' travel habits in hopes of finding her match. Check out the trailer below.
2) Palme d'Or-winning French film Blue is the Warmest Color is opening in the United States soon and a full trailer has finally been released. A romantic lesbian coming-of-age story, the film received extra buzz due to what critics describe as "extended" and "graphic" sex scenes, earning it an NC-17 rating. Look for the film to be released in limited theaters in the U.S. October 25. Check out the new trailer below.
3) Out Smash alumni, Andy Mientus, will be joining the cast of a new ABC Family series, Chasing Life. The drama revolves around April (Italia Ricci), a young journalist, who is diagnosed with cancer just as things in her life were starting to go right. Mientus will be joining the cast as Jackson during the fifth episode. The series is scheduled to air on ABC Family sometime in 2014.
4) Nathan Lane is adding another TV project to his docket in addition to his roles on Modern Family and The Good Wife. Lane will be co-starring alongside Brendan Gleeson in a new HBO pilot, Money. Created by David Milch (Deadwood), the drama examines wealth and corruption in the upper echelons of America. Lane will play reporter Gordon McCarren, who desperately digs for hot scoop to rescue his floundering career.
5) Indigo Girls' Emily Saliers is now married! Saliers took a time out from a Vancouver performance at the Vogue Theatre to share the news that she and wife Tristin Chipman tied the knot in New York. The pair met when Chipman worked as the tour manager for the Indigo Girls. They now have a 9-month-old baby and Chipman works in the music industry in Toronto. The Indigo Girls are on tour in Canada until October 22. Watch Saliers share her happy news below.
6) If Neil Patrick Harris' duties at the Emmys this past week weren't enough, he is currently directing a theatrical magic show called Nothing to Hide. Written by Derek DelGaudio and choreographed by Helder Guimaraes, Harris worked with the magicians previously while at the Geffen Theatre in Los Angeles, where Nothing to Hide sold out and extended its run five times. Harris is excited for New York audiences to experience Nothing to Hide, which will run at The Pershing Square Signature Center November 6 – December 8.
7) Independent filmmaker John Lerchen is raising funds to finish producing his feature-length drama, Dearest Jane. Jane is sent to live in Indiana with her gay uncle after her parents' divorce and his life-changing breakup. Dearest Jane explores coming of age, acceptance and family as she navigates her new life in Indiana. Visit Dearest Jane's Kickstarter campaign page for more information about the project.
