1) Chloe Grace Moretz and Sasha Lane have been announced to star in the upcoming film adaptation of the popular young adult novel The Miseducation of Cameron Post. Moretz will play the lead role of Cameron Post, a gay girl growing up in Montana in 1993 who is sent to a “conversion therapy” center by her conservative aunt after she developed a relationship with her best friend (played by Lane). The film will be directed by out director Desiree Akhavan (Appropriate Behavior).
2) ABC has released the first trailer for the upcoming event miniseries When We Rise, premiering this February. The series, from out writer/director Dustin Lance Black, chronicles the history of the LGBTQ community from the 1970s up to modern times. The eight-hour series includes episodes directed by Black, executive producer Gus Van Sant, and Dee Rees.
3) Throughout the month of November, the Tribeca Virtual Arcade at World Trade Center will be running a free virtual reality experience with three clips from the Adam Lambert and Queen concert film VR The Champions. Jim Parsons, the out star of Big Bang Theory, is developing a new comedy for the Freeform network titled The Monarchy Is Going to Sh*t. Parsons is also attached to executive produce CBS’ Sheldon, a possible prequel spinoff following his Big Bang character.
4) Out musician Kesha will be honored with the Trailblazer Award at Billboard’s Women in Music 2016. The 11th annual event, held December 9 and airing on Lifetime December 12, will also be honoring another out singer, Halsey, with the Rising Star Award. In other music news, Sia has released a new track, “Never Give Up,” from the upcoming film Lion.
