The GLAAD Wrap: 'Carol' hits theaters, Elton John premieres new single, and more!

Every week, The GLAAD Wrap brings you LGBT-related entertainment news highlights, fresh stuff to watch out for, and fun diversions to help you kick off the weekend.

1) The highly anticipated film Carol opens in select theaters today. Based on Patricia Highsmith's novel "The Price of Salt," Carol follows the relationship of Therese (Rooney Mara), a department store clerk, and Carol (Cate Blanchett), an older, married woman. The film also features Sarah Paulson as Carol's best friend and former lover. Check out the trailer below!

2) Strand Releasing has acquired distribution rights for That's Not Us. The film follows a group of friends that consists of three couples (one straight, one gay, one lesbian) as they take a weekend beach trip. It has screened at festivals including Outfest Los Angeles and InsideOut. The film will likely be released in early 2016. See the trailer below.

3) Emma Stone is set to play out tennis pro Billie Jean King in Fox Searchlight's Battle of the Sexes. The film is about the tennis match of 1973 when King beat former Wimbledon champion Bobby Riggs (Steve Carell).

4) ABC has set their schedule and return dates for mid-season. The new comedy The Real O'Neals, loosely based on the life of Dan Savage, premieres March 2. The series follows a seemingly perfect Catholic family whose lives take an unexpected turn when middle son Kenny comes out. In other TV news, Andrew Rannells' Elijah on Girls is getting a new boyfriend in the upcoming season.

5) Vice Special Report: Countdown To Zero explores HIV and AIDS research to learn about the search for the cure. The special will feature interviews with advocates, researchers, patients, public figures and policymakers. It debuts on December 1 at 9pm on HBO. Watch the trailer below.

6) 8 Inch Betsy released their final album, The Mean Days, this week. It was originally recorded in 2009, but took several years to complete. Bassist Eli Burke describes the release as a "bittersweet" moment after frontwoman Meghan Galbraith passed away in January. Listen to new track "Dashed" below.

7) Elton John has debuted the single "Looking Up" off of his next album Wonderful Crazy Night, which is set to be released February 5, 2016. This will be his 33rd studio album, Wonderful Crazy Night is available for pre-order now with an instant download of "Looking Up." Listen to it below!

8) The upcoming documentary Ghosts of the République has launched a Kickstarter campaign. The feature follows a newlywed gay couple, Nicolas and Aurelien, as they try to start a family and explore the world of international surrogacy as France's laws do not allow for surrogacy arrangements currently.
