
Every week, The GLAAD Wrap brings you LGBT-related entertainment news highlights, fresh stuff to watch out for, and fun diversions to help you kick off the weekend.
1) The first trailer has been released for Below Her Mouth which will premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival this month. The film centers on fashion editor Jasmine (Natalie Krill) who is surprised to find herself interested in Dallas (newcomer Erika Linder), a roofer recently out of a relationship who confidently hits on Jasmine even after learning she is engaged to a man. The two begin an affair, but Jasmine is forced to confront the changes their relationship is bringing in her day-to-day life.
2) The upcoming film Dirty 30, starring Hannah Hart who will be honored with the Davidson/Valentini Award at next week's GLAAD Gala San Francisco, has launched a campaign with web-platform Tugg which would allow fans to bring the film to their local theaters. Screenings are already listed in several key cities and fans can also signed up to "host" a screening near them. Once enough people purchase reserve tickets to meet the threshold requirement, the event is confirmed. Check out Tugg to find or host a screening near you.
3) Viva is out now on Amazon and iTunes. The film, which premiered at Sundance this January, follows a boy from Cuba who longs to be a drag queen. When he finally gets his shot at performing, his estranged father comes back into his life and the two struggle to understand each other and reconcile as a family. In other film news, Colton Haynes has joined the cast of Sony's upcoming Rock That Body which also stars Kate McKinnon, the film follows five friends who rent a beach house for a wild bachelorette weekend.
4) Out actress Anna Paquin will star in the new mystery series Bellevue to air on the Canadian Broadcasting Company, she will play Detective Annie Ryder who is investigating the disappearance of a transgender teen. There has not yet been an announcement as to whether the series will also screen in the U.S. Cheyenne Jackson will star in the new TV Land pilot American Woman inspired by the life of Real Housewives' star Kyle Richards, and Outlander has cast David Berry to play closeted Lord John Grey in the third season of the Starz period drama. Killjoys has been renewed for a third season, and the first trailer for Shameless upcoming seventh season dropped this week.
5) In other television news, Ellen DeGeneres is executive producing a new pilot which has landed at ABC, Splitting Up Together is based on a Danish series of the same name about a couple whose marriage is revitalized by their divorce. Power producer Greg Berlanti is developing another superhero show, this time focused on Black Lightning who debuted in 1977 and was one of DC Comic's first major Black superheroes. Out Teen Wolf creator Jeff Davis has finalized a deal for a pilot order at TNT for a television adaptation of Let the Right One In.
6) Tegan and Sara have released a new video for the track "White Knuckles." Out actor and director Michael Arden will direct a new Broadway production of Once On This Island, the musical is a Caribbean adaptation of The Little Mermaid. Sam Smith's first album, Sam Smith Diva Boy, will be released this month by an independent label. The album was recorded in 2008. Sam Tsui and Casey Breves, singers who have gained fame through YouTube, have released a new music video for their original track "This Promise" which documents the couple's wedding.
