The GLAAD Wrap: '3 Generations' out now, Hulu picks up Marvel's 'Runaways'

Every week, The GLAAD Wrap brings you LGBTQ-related entertainment news highlights, fresh stuff to watch out for, and fun diversions to help you kick off the weekend.

1) The film 3 Generations opens today. The film stars Naomi Watts, Susan Sarandon, and Elle Fanning. The film follows Ray (Fanning), a teen who is transitioning, and his mother, Maggie, who must face her own demons as she hunts down Ray's father. Sarandon plays Ray's grandmother, Dolly, who shares her brownstone with her partner, Frances, Maggie, and Ray. You can watch the trailer here, and check here to find a screening near you.

2) Out actor and comedian Kate McKinnon has joined the indie comedy film, Fam-i-ly, alongside previously announced star Taylor Schilling (Orange is the New Black). The movie follows a teenage girl who runs away from home, and the "emotionally stunted" aunt who is tasked with taking care of her for the week.

3) Marvel’s Runaways has been picked up for a whole season, coming to Hulu. The drama based on the comic series of the same name, about a group of teenagers who unite to fight the criminal organization their parents have joined, features lesbian superhero, Karolina Dean, and her shape-shifting partner, Xavin. The series will premiere this winter. Hulu also announced this week that The Handmaiden’s Tale will be returning for a second season in 2018.

4) Showtime has announced that the final season of Episodes will premiere Sunday, August 20thSundanceTV has announced a third season renewal for the GLAAD Media Award-nominated series Hap and Leonard. In other TV news, talks are ongoing for a revival of the Roseanne series. Netflix and ABC are reportedly bidding on acquiring the eight episodes which would bring back many of the series cast, including Sara Gilbert. In the original series, both Roseanne's friend, Nancy, and Roseanne's mother came out as lesbians, and Roseanne's boss married his boyfriend in a season eight episode.

5) Rufus Wainwright has released a video for his cover of “Signed, Sealed, Delivered (I’m Yours)” by Stevie Wonder. Out musician Angel Haze has also returned. Her last music video premiered three years ago, and she has just released her new video for her single “Resurrection." The album is scheduled to be released early summer, check out the video below.

6) Out singer, songrwriter and poet Mary Lambert's new EP Bold drops today. The partially crowdfunded EP features seven tracks, including last year's single "Hang Out With You." You can watch the video below and buy the album on iTunes and Amazon. In other music news, Halsey has released a new track from her upcoming release hopeless fountain kingdom.

7) The 2017 Tony Award Nominations have been announced. Various LGBTQ artists and works have been nominated. Standouts include Indecent which is nominated for Best Play. Dear Even Hansen from out composer Benji Pasek is nominated in several categories included Best Musical. Other nominees include David Hyde Pierce and Gavin Creel for Hello, Dolly!, Cynthia Nixon for Lillian Hellman’s The Little Foxes, and Andrew Rannells and Brandon Uranowitz for Falsettos. 10) Bound: The Series has lauched a new indiegogo campaign. The series aims to explore how the action drama genre and LGBTQ storylines can meet. The main character, Jacob, is an out gay agent that works for the Narcotics Enforcement Agency. He is struggling in trying to find a balance between his job, his new responsibilities, and his new relationship. Additionally, he’s trying to figure out how to be a hero and what it means to be a “good guy.” For more information on the campaign click here and watch the trailer below.
