GLAAD partners with TikTok for #ThisIsMe campaign in honor of National Coming Out Day

In honor of National Coming Out Day, GLAAD has partnered with TikTok for its #ThisIsMe campaign. From October 9 to 16, TikTok users can show their support for acceptance by creating, engaging and sharing #ThisIsMe videos. For each video created, TikTok will donate $1 to GLAAD’s LGBTQ advocacy work, up to $50,000.

TikTok is the leading destination for short-form mobile video. The platform’s mission is to inspire and enrich people's lives by offering a home for creative expression and an experience that is genuine, joyful, and positive. #ThisIsMe provides TikTok users an opportunity to celebrate and show their support for friends and family in the LGBTQ community.

“TikTok is about embracing creative expression through video. We’re proud to partner with GLAAD on #ThisIsMe, which celebrates the LGBTQ community and shows our commitment to acceptance in honor of National Coming Out Day. Today and every day we celebrate all of our LGBTQ friends who have come out, and those learning who they are, ” said Edward Chou, TikTok.

“National Coming Out Day is an important moment for LGBTQ people to share authentic stories of self-acceptance, identity, and love,” said Rich Ferraro, GLAAD’s Chief Communications Officer. “Participants in the TikTok #ThisIsMe campaign will help spread these stories and messages in a unique way and will also remind LGBTQ youth that there is an entire community of people who accept and support them. Today more than ever, these messages are critical to amplify.”
