Gaymercon and GLAAD Team Up for Spirit Day Video Contest

Gaymercon, the first convention dedicated to LGBT “geek culture,” is teaming up with GLAAD to go purple for Spirit Day on October 19 and send messages of support by hosting a video contest to promote awareness.

Create a video under five minutes while wearing purple about being LGBT or allied youth in high school or college and discuss how you have experienced or dealt with bullying. Two videos – one picked by the Gaymercon staff vote, one with the most likes on YouTube – will receive the grand prizes. Each will get a 250GB Xbox 360 signed by Xbox Live staff plus Coin Entered passes to Gaymercon. Other prizes include Gaymercon passes and Boomphones headphones. Submission ends October 12, so get to it! Watch the video detailing rules below.

Gaymercon has recieved immense support since launching their original Kickstarter campaign where blew past their original goal of $25,000 to raise over $90,000.  They recently announced that one of the world’s biggest software developers, Electronic Arts (EA), has come on board as an official supporter, joining existing supporters Xbox Live and Penny Arcade.

Gaymercon will be held in August of 2013 in San Francisco and aims to bring together LGBT gamers and allies from all over the world for a celebration of all things geeky, including video games, comics and technology. Organizers hope Gaymercon will help “shape a more tolerant and safer space in gaming.”
