Documentary 'A Gay Girl in Damascus: The Amina Profile' premieres in theaters and on demand today

A Gay Girl in Damascus: The Amina Profile, a documentary about a false online relationship between a Canadian woman and a Syrian girl, premieres today in select theaters and through the on demand service SundanceNow Doc Club. Check out the trailer below.

The documentary follows the story of Amina Arraf, a Syrian-American girl who got involved in an online relationship with a Canadian woman, Sandra Bagaria, during the Syrian uprising and recorded it on her blog, "A Gay Girl in Damascus." The blog got an enormous following and triggered global concern when Arraf was allegedly abducted by the Syrian police. However, it was discovered that "Amina" was a fake profile created by an American man.

The film premiered at Sundance last January to strong reviews and will make its debut on television later this year through Sundance Channel Global. You can catch it now on SundanceNow Doc Club or find a screening near you.
