The Coca-Cola Company supports LGBT youth for #SpiritDay 10/17

The Coca-Cola Company is joining GLAAD for Spirit Day, supporting LGBT youth and taking a stand against bullying!

The Coca-Cola LGBTA Business Resource Group is encouraging all Coca-Cola associates to go purple online and wear purple today.  The Coca-Cola Company went purple on on its social media platforms, creating a custom purple Spirit Day background and asking its followers to use #CokeJourney and #SpiritDay.

They have also published an article about Spirit Day to the Coca-Cola Journey page, which features a purple background. 

The Coca-Cola Company has consistently been awarded a 100% ranking in the Human Rights Campaign Corporate Equality Index for LGBT inclusion.

Celebrities including the cast of Hot in Cleveland and Betty White, Demi Lovato, Nick Cannon, Jimmy Kimmel, WWE Superstar Darren Young, Macklemore, Kristen Bell, Melissa Etheridge, and a growing list will also be going purple for Spirit Day. Sports leagues including Major League Baseball, Major League Soccer, the NBA, the NFL, the NHL and the WNBA will be participating on social media. And brands like American Eagle Outfitters, NBCUniversal and Johnson & Johnson are taking a stand, along with hundreds of schools, faith groups, media outlets, companies, and organizations.

Founded in 2010, Spirit Day is an international, united stand against bullying and show of support for LGBT teens and young adults everywhere. Participants can get into the spirit by

  • Turning your Facebook, Twitter and other profile photos purple at and spreading the word by using hashtag #SpiritDay
  • Wearing purple on October 17th and encouraging classmates or coworkers to do the same
  • Uploading photos of you wearing purple to Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and Tumblr using hashtag #SpiritDay and Spirit Day graphics
  • Downloading the Spirit Day App
  • Educating your friends and family about bullying and the LGBT community
  • Getting your school, GSA, organization, etc. to become a Spirit Day partner
