Carson Kressley Dances off Dancing with the Stars but Continues to Shine in Purple for Spirit Day

Openly gay celebrity stylist, author, fashion designer, and Emmy winner, Carson Kressley, was among the fan favorites on this season of Dancing with the Stars, but he was unfortunately voted off in this week’s fifth elimination episode. All the same, the positive impact Carson’s presence has made for LGBT visibility in the media should be acknowledged and celebrated.

Prior to Dancing with the Stars, Carson’s television career took off with Lifetime’s critically acclaimed show How to Look Good Naked, followed by Bravo’s breakout hit series Queer Eye for the Straight Guy, which landed him an Emmy award. Recently, he was seen hosting Your Own Show: Oprah’s Search for the Next TV Star on the OWN network and is recognized as a best-selling author, publishing three books, one of which is the children’s book You’re Different and That’s Super, about promoting diversity and tolerance among youth.

The same beliefs that inspired this book are what push Carson in his work towards equality. His support and involvement with The Trevor Project, the Human Rights Campaign, the Empire State Pride Agenda, LIGALY (Long Island Gay & Lesbian Youth), and GLSEN are what make him such a positive voice for the LGBT community and a pivotal participant in tomorrow’s second annual Spirit Day; a day dedicated to standing in solidarity with LGBT youth against bullying.
