Carson Daly Makes Homophobic Jokes About Jet Blue Incident; Apologizes

On his morning radio show in Los Angeles, TV personality Carson Daly made several homophobic jokes about a recent incident aboard a Jet Blue flight. Daly has since issued an apology.

The jokes specifically reference the recently reported story of several passengers  restraining an unstable pilot.  After discussing how the men who restrained him were on their way to a security conference in Las Vegas, Daly said “With my luck, it would be like ... 'this is the flight going to [the gay pride parade] in San Francisco.”  He continued by imitating a passenger saying “we're headed down to Vegas for the floral convention,” and refusing to help in the same theoretical situation.  TMZ originally reported on the incident, and provided a full transcript and audio on their site.

Following the posting of TMZ’s story, Daly tweeted the following:  This morning on my radio show I attempted to make fun of myself & offended others by mistake. I sincerely apologize.

Daly is currently also the host of NBC’s The Voice.  GLAAD is in dialogue with Daly’s representatives and asked him to speak out against stereotypes of the LGBT community.  We will provide updates as they become available.
