Campus Pride hosting Free Webinar with Anna Aagenes of GO! Athletes

This April Campus Pride is hosting a free online webinar series that aims to discuss issues involving LGBT college and campus life as a way to create a positive environment for young people and their allies. Campus pride is a non-profit which works to works to develop student leaders, campus networks and future actions to create a positive change, as they work toward creating campuses that are free of LGBT prejudice, bigotry, and hate.

For one of the Webinars, Campus Pride has paired up with GO! Athletes to discuss issues involving LGBT college athletes and athletics.

The event, which is completely free, is being held on April Thursday, April 24th at 8:00 PM EST and should last 50-75 minutes. You can register for the event online by going here. Student groups are encouraged to register as one “participant” and call in together to allow for greater participation from campuses nationwide, since space is limited.

GO! (Generation Out) Athletes is an organization that uses its network of former and current LGBTQA student-athletes and allies to educate and empower athletes and allies at the high school, collegiate, and post graduate levels. This network is used to speak out  on issues involved with being LGBT in collegiate athletics and to provide role models for student-athletes. The organization also provides consultation to athletes and their peers, peer support, and workshops that aim to educate on issues involving LGBT student-athletes.

The webinar will feature guest presenter Anna Aagenes, who is the executive director of GO! Athletes. During her time at the University of Pennsylvania, Ms. Aagenes was the captain of the women's Track and Field and Cross Country team. She was also the co-chair of PATH (Penn Athletes and Allies Tackling Homophobia) and the Queer Student Alliance. Her experience in collegiate athletics should provide a wealth of information regarding LGBT issues in the collegiate sports landscape.
