29th Annual GLAAD Media Awards in Los Angeles: Offstage Winners

The 29th Annual GLAAD Media Awards honored the biggest and brightest to champion GLAAD’s mission of accelerating acceptance for the LGBTQ community. Below is a complete list of winners announced offstage:

Daniela Vega in A Fantastic Woman

Outstanding Film – Limited Release: A Fantastic Woman (Sony Pictures Classics)

"A Fantastic Woman" is a Chilean drama on love and loss that centers a trans woman who faces adversity after the sudden loss of her lover.

Outstanding TV Movie or Limited Series: When We Rise (ABC)

"When We Rise" is a docudrama which highlights the wins, losses and overall battles of LGBTQ activists who championed part of their U.S. civil rights movement from its very start.

World of Wakanda (Marvel)

Outstanding Comic Book: Black Panther: World of Wakanda (Marvel Comics)

"World of Wakanda" is a series about the trials and tribulations of two African women (lovers Ayo and Aneka) from the Black Panther's all-female military, the Dora Milajae.

Outstanding Daily Drama: The Bold and the Beautiful (CBS)

"The Bold and the Beautiful" is a television soap opera set in the city of Los Angeles and centers the wealthy and powerful Forrester family as well as its company, Forrester Creations.

Outstanding Digital Journalism Article: “Why Bisexual Men Are Still Fighting to Convince Us They Exist” by Samantha Allen (Splinter)

Prolific journalist and out bisexual, Samantha Allen, wrote this article for Splinter to bring awareness to the erasure of bisexual men. In it, she writes, “bisexual men are like climate change: real but constantly denied.”

Outstanding Kids & Family Programming winner: Andi Mack (Disney Channel)

"Andi Mack" tells the story of titular character Andi Mack, a thirteen-year old on a journey of self-discovery. The show features a key character who comes out as gay onscreen.

Outstanding Blog: TransGriot (transgriot.blogspot.com)

TransGriot, run by "proud, unapologetic" Black trans woman, Monica Roberts, is centered around human rights advocacy for the trans community.

SPANISH-LANGUAGE WINNERS:

Outstanding Scripted Television Series: Las Chicas Del Cable (Netflix)

"Las Chicas Del Cable" focuses on working women in the 1920s and the hardships they faced as they join a modern telecommunications company in Madrid.

Outstanding Digital Journalism: “Tres Hemanitos Para Dos Papás” por Jacqueline García (laopinion.com)

The 29th Annual GLAAD Media Awards continue in New York City on Saturday, May 5. During that ceremony, Samira Wiley will receive the Vito Russo Award and Ross Mathews will serve as host. Special guests include Halsey, Laverne Cox, Asia Kate Dillon, Lea Michele and Wrabel.
