Alex Schmider, Director of Transgender Representation

 

Alex Schmider is an Emmy, Peabody, and Critics Choice Award nominated film producer and the Director of Transgender Representation at GLAAD. In his role at GLAAD, he advises media and entertainment industry leaders, and consults with production companies, editorial teams, brands, and corporations on how best to approach LGBTQ and, specifically, transgender characters, storylines, marketing, social impact campaigns, and gender inclusion on digital platforms including dating apps, health & wellness subscription services, social media, database collection, and telecommunications. 

His producing credits include Hulu Original Documentary CHANGING THE GAME (2021), Netflix Original Documentary DISCLOSURE (2020) for which he co-authored the accompanying Toolkit for Entertainment Industry Professionals, creative documentary FRAMING AGNES (Sundance 2022), and STAY ON BOARD: THE LEO BAKER STORY (Netflix 2022).

Named one of Forbes 30 Under 30 for media in 2017, Schmider was most recently recognized on them.com's 2021 Now List of LGBTQ+ visionaries. He is an active member of the Producers Guild of America and currently sits on the Advisory Committee for the Ad Council. 

He received his Bachelors of Science degree in Psychology from Tufts University in 2013 with a minor in Media & Communications, concentrating on the effects of media representation and consumer behaviors on identity and interpersonal relationships.
