Ebony Magazine, the 65-year-old monthly periodical that focuses on the African-American community, featured the love story of Yanette L. Freeman and Willa Walker in its annual Black Love issue. The couple, which has been together for four years, in the article discusses how they met and the importance of their love for each other. “I met my partner in 1998 via mutual friends,” Yanette told the magazine. “The official year of our union was 2007, and I’ve never been happier in my life,” she continued. Willa echoed her partner’s sentiments saying: “When meeting my [her]...and our group of friends in the late ‘90s, it was exciting and new for me. [We]closer over the years, and it has been one of the best experiences of my life.” The Black Love issue is an annual look at the state of African-American relationships. This year the magazine included an in-depth survey that examined issues of intimacy, relationship roadblocks and marriage.  The magazine also featured the love stories of couples, and individuals. We applaud Ebony for highlighting different stories about love and commitment. GLAAD encourages other media outlets to follow Ebony’s strong example of including stories of gay and lesbian people that spotlight the rich diversity of our community and the issues that affect our lives.
