Last month,
GLAAD issued a Call to Action against NBC's Today Show after producers announced that its "Modern Wedding Contest" would be closed to same-sex couples. Over 4,000 advocates and allies wrote to NBC executives to explain that gay and lesbian couples deserved the same chance to celebrate their love as their straight counterparts.
Executive producers finally agreed to meet with GLAAD and, after hearing our concerns, agreed to open the contest to all loving and committed couples. NBC's decision was not only a huge victory for the LGBT community, but a big step for the network. By allowing same-sex couples to apply, NBC furthered its own high standards of quality and fairness.
NBC will announce its four finalists on August 18.
Several couples have shared their story with GLAAD and we're thrilled to share those videos with you here. GLAAD encourages other contestants to send us your videos and we will post them to this blog.
