GLAAD and other LGBT groups call on Congress to maintain family unity at the heart of immigration reform. The groups support changes to the immigration bill that will provide an accessible pathway to citizenship, and ardently oppose draconian amendments that would make immigrants permanent second-class citizens.
A plan for comprehensive immigration reform legislation was introduced by senators today, and it does not include same-sex couples. GLAAD urges a final bill that protects all immigrants, including LGBT people.
GLAAD has joined with fellow LGBT advocacy organizations to endorse a set of principles in support of fair and humane immigration reform. Many organizations are expected to sign on.
Today April 10 is National Immigration Day of Action, a day where organizations and advocates across the country march to pressure Congress to pass fair and humane comprehensive immigration reform, and over 25 LGBT organizations are standing in solidarity.
