In an open letter on the game’s website, Star Wars: The Old Republic Executive Producer Jeff Hickman has announced that long awaited same-sex romance options will soon be available to players soon via game updates coming this spring.
As the video game medium continues to mature and diversify, so too has it become an increasingly progressive and LGBT-inclusive one with a growing influence on culture and increasingly mainstream audience. 2012 turned out to be quite an interesting year in regards to LGBT representation and video games, from the communities that exist around them, to the companies that produce them, and into games themselves.
After developers announced last month that the upcoming game Star Wars: The Old Republic would feature only heterosexual romance options, fans immediately began voicing their disapproval across the internet. Several weeks later, it appears their voices have been heard.
